Tinamou eggs

Tinamou eggs by Kai Cabunoc-Boettcher

These beautiful, colorful eggs are from the Tinamou. This photo is from Kai Cabunoc-Boettcher, a previous volunteer at Finca Bellavista. These eggs were nestled in the ground near the trunk of a giant Ceiba tree, and Kai snapped this photo.

Tinamous are ground-dwelling birds that breed in a wide range of habitats, including the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica. Tinamous are resident in their habitats — they do not migrate like many other birds.
